Another round for Vik's friends at Varese...
The other night, Vik noticed a gathering of the folks from Varese at the booth in the back. Curious as to what they had coming out, he told Max the Bartender to mix their drinks strong and put them on the house. a few rounds of Zombie Smashes loosened lips and Vik found out about two swinging releases coming April 8th. Latin fans can rhumba the night away with a brand new Xavier Cugat collection "Cugie A Go-Go". And, for all you F&T fans, it's the release of Ferrante and Teicher's "Blast Off!" with bonus tracks from "With Percussion". Waiting for the the gathering to finally pass out (round eight of the Smashes), Vik picked the lock on one of their briefcases and found the track listings. Yes...that Pat Boone
Pat Boone, the 62-year-old crooner with a squeaky clean image, is a convert to what was once called "the devil's music." And he wants to spread the word about heavy metal. "These songs are well-constructed, melodic, harmonic gems," Boone said. "I'm totally ignorant of metal because, up 'till four years ago it set my teeth on edge." But now he's released a new album, "Pat Boone In a Metal Mood: No More Mr. Nice Guy." It features the tattooed and ear-ringed singer tackling some heavy metal classics such as Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven" and Deep Purple's "Smoke on the Water." But unlike most heavy metal music, this album has a swinging big-band sound.

Sounds Easy 26 Easy Listening Memories (Mercury/PolyGram UK 535 421)

Vik has recently been studying at the feet of easy listenings high priest Joseph Lanza to achieve enlightenment for "dentist office music." A recent Lanza Experience guest DJ night at In Hi-Fi sent Vik out to the store looking for those soothing sounds of the elevator.
