Walter Wanderley
"Samba Swing"
(Scamp 9704)

"Walter Wanderley's fiendishly bouncy Jetsons space-party sound brings to mind visions of poolside conspirational conferences of Swiss bankers in girlwatcher shades and emigre Nazis clutching pina coladas while disposing of ill-gotten gold bullion amidst tanga-clad chocolate babes." - Stuart Swezey, Amok books

Next to coffee, Walter Wanderley is one of Brazil's tastiest exports. His organ based music is among the most remembered ear candy of the swinging '60s. One might say he organ-ized the Bossa Nova craze that swept the world and became the music of the Jet Set.

"If you like Ella, Duke, Count and Sinatra, you'll love Walter Wanderley's music." - Tony Bennett

Wanderley's appeal to the growing "lounge" movement is unquestioned. He is seen by many tastemakers and DJs as the "next-in-line-to-be-rediscovered" artist of the "cocktail nation." Odds are even stronger as this is the first album produced by Irwin Chusid since his highly successful Esquivel reissues and Space Age Bachelor Pad series for BMG.

Among jazz fans, Wanderley's early Verve albums rank along with those of Stan Getz, Astrud Gilberto and Antonio Carlos Jobim as hallmarks of the swinging samba era.

Samba Swing is Walter Wanderley's first album length collection of his work on compact disc. Here are fifteen fabulously swinging songs, including his Billboard top 40 smash "Summer Samba" and five tracks featuring "the girl from Ipanema", Astrud Gilberto on vocals.

Summer Samba - It's A Lovely Day Today - Cheganca - Call Me - Taste Of Sadness - Here's That Rainy Day - O Menino Desce O Morro - The Girl From Impanema - A Certain Sadness - Aqua De Beber - Cry Out Your Sadness - Nega - Beach Samba - O Ganso - So Nice
