Back in the 50's and early 60's, technology redesigned our homes. Ovens cleaned themselves, washing machines turned themselves off, refrigerators defrosted automatically...leisure time was pouring forth like a leaky beanbag chair. Buckminister Fuller, whose Dymaxion House might have been the very first bachelor pad, was reimagining the living space. Wilhelm Reich's orgone box, a kind of customized photo booth designed to cure cancer and heighten orgasms, titillated America. A whole lot of nutty professors were out there, soon to give birth to a suburban sprawl of test-tube babies. Some of them did it in laboratories, but some labored in the recording studio with a brio that would have brought a smile to Mr. Wizard's gentle visage.
